(B Series) The Straight Tooth Side Milling Cutter
Straight tooth side milling cutters have 10 degree positive radial rake and 0 degree axial rake angles. They have clearance and slight concavity on the side tooth to avoid dragging in the cut when slotting. This cutter is used for slotting and straddle milling. It has side teeth cutting on both sides and has more teeth cutting than does the staggered tooth cutter. For parts that require maximum number of teeth engaged in the workpiece (minimize deflection on thin walled parts, finish requirements, interrupted cuts) the straight tooth side mill has an advantage. The long side tooth design permits greater latitude for modification, more regrinds, and economical regashing. The raised land allows numerous resharpenings without requiring a secondary clearance grind. There are 259 standard straight tooth side milling cutters in 11 diameters providing infinite width selection from .170 - 1.000 in decimal or metric sizes. The infinite width range and long side tooth design broaden the application possibilities available by modifying the straight tooth side mill. In addition to the normal slotting and straddle milling applications, this cutter is economically modified to eliminate special form relieved cutters.Where availability due to limited lead time demands fast delivery, or where the job lot quantity does not justify a form tool charge, a modified straight tooth side mill is practical and economical.
Straight tooth side milling cutters are standard in 259 sizes in 11 diameters. There is an infinite decimal range from .170 - 1.000 with minor modification.
Where job lot quantities do not justify form relieved cutters or where production schedules require immediate delivery, the rnodification of the straight tooth side mill (within the width and diameter range listed in engineering specifications chart B, page 6) is easily modified into a form cutter.
